Three Kidnappers Shot By Police In Delta State

Three Kidnappers Shot By Police In Delta State
Delta State - The police have shot three suspected members of kidnappers' gang after engaging in a gun duel with the suspects along Ogwashi-Uku/Issele-Azagba Road. The suspects died at the hospital later.

The three killed persons are Eze Ogugua, 21, student of Business Administration in Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku; Lucky Onochie, 24, interior decorator; Onyema Biggy, 24, the suspected leader of the criminal group.
The kidnappers have been terrorising the Ogwashi-Uku community in Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, Onyema orchestrated his elderly relative's kidnapping on 16 January, 2014, and abducted the man as he prepared to leave for the morning mass. The 81-year-old victim was seized at his compound by five gunmen and fled. The culprits then demanded N16 million ransom, but later reduced the sum to N850,000 during negotiation.
The police have ambushed the unsuspecting criminals at the ransom collecting point along Ogwashi-Uku/Issele-Azagba Road. The three young men were wounded in the gun battle; however, it was gathered that they confessed to the crime before being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, where they later died.
Angered by the development, youths in Ogwashi-Uku destroyed the properties at the deceased suspects' residences.
Delta Police Command Acting Public Relations Officer, DSP Charles Muka, confirmed the incident. He strongly advised the young people not to take the laws into their hands, as those caught would be dealt with as criminals.
